Eco Patterns - How can a pattern be sustainable?
Little stitch marker and I, we are seriously concerned about our planet. Therefore, we use the resources of our planet mindfully. I see sustainability as a part of my personality. Even as a small kid, I wanted to become a 'double environmentalist'.
Here is, what I actually do:
- I sketch on the backside of waste paper.
- I knit primarily with yarn from my stash. In other words, I use, what is already there. If I need new yarn, I try to get it second hand and I prefer sustainable materials such as organic cotton or recycled yarn.
- I literally ow a hand full of knitting needles and crochet hooks. They are made of regrowing Wood/Bamboo or long lasting metal. Only a few of them have plastic handles or nylon cables.
- Sustainability means also, that I write my texts and patterns on a more than 10 years old Laptop, which still runs okay with Linux. I take photos and videos with my easy to repair smartphone made from recycled materials. I use solar energy from our rooftop and also the servers for this website run with electricity from renewable sources.
- While writing this text, I wear a second hand T-shirt and a 'goes-with-everything', 10 years old black skirt.
You can use my patterns with an easy conscience. Small things matter.
