Who can resist a charming rainbow? The age-old symbol of hope amazes us and makes us smile. It also represents diversity and tolerance. What pattern could be more fitting for a joyful family blanket wether as for cuddling on the couch, for building a comfy den or as picnic blanket.

Cotton Rainbow Blanket Pauletto is made of 100% Cotton. Therefore it is pleasantly heavy and robust. The blanket is very easy to knit. It is all knit stitch. You just need a little endurance. The blanket is knit in blocks of two colors each. At the end, the blocks are sown together. That way, the heaviness of the blanket won’t tear at your needles while knitting.

Measurements:
Ca. 200 x 110 cm

Materials:

  • 1200 g DK cotton yarn (z.B. Schachenmayr Catania) in 8 different rainbow colors (150 g each)
    sky blue
    ultramarine
    violet
    cherry red
    brick red
    yellow
    grass green
    forest green
  • Lauflänge 50 g = 125 m (z.B. Schachenmayr Catania)
  • Rundstricknadel Stärke 3,5 mm, Länge 80 cm
  • Scissors and tapestry needle

Gauge garter stitch:
I used 3.5 mm /US size 4 needles and blocked the swatch.
10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in = 24 stitches x 40 rows

Let's knit:

  1. Maschenanschlag

I have carefully calculated and tested, the length of yarn, that is needed for cast on, bind of and sewing together. However, depending on your knitting style and tension, the length of yarn might differ for you. Therefore, I suggest taking notes while knitting the first block.

  2. Erster Block

Measure off 350 cm /138 in of yarn in sky blue. From there, cast on 270 stitches using the long-tail cast-on. Slip the first stitch of every row purlwise with yarn in front and purl the last stitch. All stitches in between are knit, which leads to the garter stitch pattern. Use up the sky blue yarn until the last complete row. This means knit until at least 500 cm /197 in are left. Continue with ultramarine in the next row. Use up the ultramarine yarn at least 850 cm /335 in are left for bind off and sewing on. Loosely bind off all stitches. Keep the rest of the yarn for sewing on the next block.

  3. Restliche Blöcke

Repeat everything with the colors violet and cherry red, brick red and yellow as well es with grass green and forest green. For the last bind of, you will only need 660 cm / 260 in because you need no residual for sewing on.

  4. Zusammennähen

Sew together the for blocks in overhand stitch. Make sure the thread is loose enough to let the blanket lay flat.

  5. Finish

Weave in all ends. Wash the finished blanket and lay flat to dry.
